MPR Selected as a Host Institution for the American Archive of Public Broadcasting National Digital Stewardship Residency Project
Mar 10, 2016
MPR has been selected as one of seven host institutions for the American Archive of Public Broadcasting National Digital Stewardship Residency Project. In April of 2015, the American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB) was awarded a grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to develop a National Digital Stewardship Residency (NDSR) program focused specifically on the area of digital audiovisual preservation in the realm of public media. Over the course of the 27-month grant, the AAPB will send seven residents to serve ten-month residencies in organizations that create and hold public media content, working to develop effective digital stewardship models for this crucial aspect of American heritage.
Organizations were chosen for the project based on their ability to design an impactful and engaging archival project for a resident to complete over the ten-month residency. The project will allow the residents to gain valuable career skills in collaboration with professionals in the fields of archives and public media, while also completing work that will provide long-term benefits to the organization. Out of 24 applicants to serve as host Institutions, only seven were selected for the project.
Over the ten months of the project, MPR's resident will be conducting a significant audit of MPR's metadata workflow and datasets, resulting in a framework for data normalization, RDF tagging / Semantic web, and improved integration with internal (MPR) data and external public access points. To find out more about the selected projects, including MPR's, visit the AAPB NDSR Hosts page on the AAPB NDSR website.
The AAPB NDSR will be receiving applications for residents for the project until Monday, March 21, 2016. Application information for the residency is also available on the AAPB site.
