The Current and First Avenue to Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Prince April 21-23

Nearly one year has passed since the world mourned the sudden and unexpected death of Minnesota's own Prince. To mark the anniversary, The Current is celebrating the life and legacy of Prince with on-air, online and live events with a weekend packed with purple, April 21-23, at the sites that mean so much to Prince fans in Minnesota and around the world - First Avenue and Paisley Park.
On Friday, April 21, tune in to The Current for a 24-hour, all-Prince playlist with hour-long deep dives into some of his best guitar solos, duets, chart hits, B-sides and more. Throughout the day, The Current's Jim McGuinn, Andrea Swensson, and Jay Gabler will be on air with live check-ins from CELEBRATION 2017 at Paisley Park. First Ave will keep the party going with the first of two late night dance parties featuring Transmission host, DJ Jake Rudh.
On Saturday, April 22, Jim McGuinn will host a special Prince-themed Teenage Kicks, from 8 a.m.- 10 a.m., Then, at noon, The Current will count down the Top 89 Prince songs, as chosen by listeners. Voting is open now at thecurrent.org. That evening, The Current presents a Memorial Street Party at First Avenue. The street party will take place on 7th Street from 5 p.m.-10 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages, but registration is required. Current fans get first access to tickets through a special pre-sale on Tuesday, April 11. Following the street party, hang out at the First Avenue Mainroom for a late-night dance party featuring DJ Shannon Blowtorch.
The weekend wraps up with a special event for Prince fans of all ages are welcome to I WOULD DANCE 4 U- A Kids Dance Party on Sunday, April 23, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at First Avenue.
