MPR News announces Rivers of Oil podcast

Jun 18, 2018

ST. PAUL, Minn., June 18, 2018 – Minnesota Public Radio News announced this week that its latest  podcast, Rivers of Oil, will focus on oil pipelines, through the lens of the Line 3 pipeline project in Minnesota. The trailer is now available, and the first of five episodes will publish Tuesday, June 19.

Protests surrounding oil piplines – from Keystone XL to Dakota Access and beyond – have highlighted our reliance on oil and the risks that oil poses to the environment. The debate looms now in Minnesota:  This week, regulators will begin hearings and deliberations on whether the state will grant Enbridge Energy permission to replace its aging Line 3 pipeline.

Rivers of Oil is hosted by MPR News’ Duluth, Minn.,-based reporter, Dan Kraker, who has been covering the progress of the Line 3 proposal from the beginning.

“One of the questions this podcast asks is if the pipelines themselves are raising the issues at hand, or if this debate is about something greater,” said Nancy Cassutt, Executive Director of MPR News & Programming. “This is an important topic in the state of Minnesota, and we think this podcast is the best medium to inform Minnesotans about what is at stake.”

All episodes of Rivers of Oil will be published on mprnews.org and major podcast platforms. Follow @RiversOfOilMPR on Twitter for podcast episodes, updates on Line 3 and news around major pipeline debates across North America.
