MPR News with Angela Davis Team Takes Home Gracie Award
Mar 30, 2023
ST. PAUL, Minn., March 30, 2023 – MPR News with Angela Davis, a talk show from Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), has been recognized by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation (AWMF) with a win in the category of radio talk show, non-commercial local in the 48th Annual Gracie Awards. The honor recognizes the October 2022 program “Your Vote: Abortion is top of mind for many voters.” The Gracies are a national award named for the late Gracie Allen, and according to the AWMF, “the Gracie Awards acknowledge outstanding team leadership and individual achievement. The Gracies focus on women who are making positive change and who further the discussion of what a fulfilling career in media looks like.”
The team behind the talk show includes host Angela Davis, who joined MPR News in 2018 after more than 25 years of television reporting and anchoring in the Twin Cities and other cities throughout the country. Producer Maja Beckstrom and producer Samantha Matsumoto are also key to the success of the show, which airs at 9 a.m. Central Mondays through Fridays.
“Winning one of the Gracies is especially meaningful to me because it acknowledges the work of women who excel in telling the stories of women,” Davis said. “I share this award with two MPR News producers who are women I admire, respect and trust.”
In addition to the Gracies win by MPR News, several individuals and teams at American Public Media Group, the parent company of MPR, won or received honorable mention, including:
Jennifer Pak, China Correspondent for Marketplace: Won in the category of Reporter/Correspondent [Radio-Nationally Syndicated Non-Commercial]
APM Reports: Honorable Mention for the podcast series Sold a Story
Marketplace: Honorable Mention for the podcast This is Uncomfortable
“We are so proud of this work, and so proud of the many women who make the work possible,” said Stephanie Curtis, program director for MPR News. “We are all aligned under a mission to create the future of public media by amplifying voices to inform, include, and inspire, and awards like this shine a light on the fruits of that commitment.”
