Minnesota Public Radio Welcomes Isaac Thompson to Board of Trustees

ST. PAUL, May 15, 2023 – Minnesota Public Radio has elected Isaac Thompson as the newest member of its Board of Trustees. Thompson currently serves as Managing Director at New York Philharmonic.  

Thompson is an artistic leader in the field, transforming orchestras and arts organizations into bold institutions that are recognized locally, nationally and internationally. At the New York Philharmonic, he held the Vice President of Artistic Planning role where he had overseen artistic planning, operations, education and archives. Thompson has also been integral in commissioning new works, expanding the New York Philharmonic's multidisciplinary offerings and planning community-focused initiatives.

Prior to joining the New York Philharmonic, Thompson served as director of Artistic Administration for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati May Festival. He also served as vice president of Artistic Planning for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the artistic team of Music@Menlo, the San Francisco Bay Area’s premier chamber music festival. 

"Growing up in the Twin Cities, MPR played an important role in fostering my love of classical music," Thompson said. "The impact that MPR has through its extraordinary programming is deeply inspiring, and I look forward to contributing to the organization's forward-thinking and ever-expanding vision." 

Thompson is a violinist and has performed prolifically, appearing at such festivals as Aspen, Round Top, Great Mountains (South Korea), Opera and Music Theater of Lucca (Italy), Chautauqua and Northern Lights Chamber Music Festival. He studied music at the University of Cincinnati and received his Master of Music at The University of Texas at Austin.
