Gov. Walz Proclaims April 10 Minnesota Music Day

Apr 11, 2024

ST. PAUL, Minn. April 11, 2024 – As part of The Current’s ongoing celebration of Minnesota Music Month, Gov. Tim Walz has proclaimed April 10 Minnesota Music Day. Walz spoke Wednesday at a show hosted at Minnesota Public Radio’s UBS Forum on the first-ever Minnesota Music Day, saying, “Artistic expression illuminates the human experience central to fostering greater understanding and respect. We’re fortunate to have a vibrant musical and artistic community that enhances the quality of life enjoyed by people who live and visit Minnesota.”

Also attending the Minnesota Music Day event were Minnesota state representative and musician María Isa Pérez-Vega and musician jeremy messersmith, who participated in a panel discussion on the local music scene moderated by The Current’s Diane Miller.

The Minnesota Music Day event also included performances by local musicians Anna Graves and Porcupine, as well as a look at the Minnesota Music Month Scouting Report. The Scouting Report is a monthly feature from The Current that for the month of April was curated by members of the local music community.

Live events for Minnesota Music Month will continue throughout April at St. Paul venues. The events are part of a celebration Minnesota Public Radio’s The Current is hosting with Carbon Sound and Radio Heartland, including live performances that showcase local artists who are keeping the spirit of the state’s vibrant music scene alive.

Gov. Walz proclaimed April as Minnesota Music Month in 2019. Minnesota Music Month recognizes the deep influence of its artists and their contributions to foster understanding of one another through music. The month is a chance to honor the creativity, energy and rich history of Minnesota’s music scene.
